WE ONLY ADOPT TO OUR IMMEDIATE AREA.
WE FEEL VERY STRONGLY THAT EVERYONE SHOULD RESCUE FROM THEIR OWN COMMUNITY. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF DOGS IN JEOPARDY THROUGHOUT THE STATE. ADOPT ONE FROM YOUR COMMUNITY AND SAVE A LIFE!

If interested in adopting from us, you MUST fill out the questions on application page. The information you provide will help us to determine which dog might be the best fit for your lifestyle/family.
We then set an appointment to meet the dog/dogs you are interested in. We encourage you to bring all household members to the appointment as it is best if everyone agrees on the pet to be adopted.
We also require a homecheck. This is done only to ensure your fenced yard will securely contain the dog you are interested in adopting.
You must have a personal ID tag ready to place on the dog you are interested in adopting. An ID tag can be made instantly with machines found at Lemos, Wal-Mart, PetSmart, or Petco. The tag must contain your address, phone number and cell phone number if available. This helps to ensure that the dog will get back home again if it happens to get out of the new home's yard.

If you are looking for a small dog, go to the website
www.shortnsweetdogrescue.org
They are located in Templeton.
To view the hundreds of thousands of other dogs in need of a new home, go to the website
www.petfinder.com
Enter your zipcode and the type of pet you are looking for. There are literally thousands waiting for someone to adopt them before time runs out.

Our dogs are used to sleeping in the house at night. This is something that we require by legal contract continue at the new home. Our dogs are crate trained for this purpose. Our dogs also get along with most other dogs, if properly introduced. They are allowed to run the property and play in groups of 15 or more, each day. Including several Pitbulls and Pit mixes. Dogs are just dogs. It doesn't matter if they are wearing a Pitbull suit. Dogs are pack animals. They are happiest when with a pack. If you only have one dog, you and your family become the dog's pack. We encourage you to become your dog's pack leader through exercise and discipline.

We often consult with behaviortist, Leah Bauer. Leah can teach you how to appropriately interact with your dog as a pack leader. She can be reached at 540-0006.
For additional OBEDIENCE training, you can go to the website listed below to download dog training videos, to train your dog basic obedience, train out bad habits, etc. There are even videos for training cats. Check out the website http://www.petvideo.com

Angus is a high energy boy. He is playful with other dogs, crate trained, walks on leash, and is affectionate. Angus looks like he may be a Basenji mix, but we are just guessing about that. He is 1-2 yrs old and about 40 lbs. See him wrestling with Coco on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tr-aFnzss84

Bijou is about 4 yr old and 55-60lbs. She is a medium energy dog. Bijou walks nicely on leash, and plays gently with other dogs. She is a bit on the shy side when meeting new people and will need a strong pack leader to help her understand she is safe and has nothing to fear. Bijou is crate trained, and may be housetrained too. She rides pretty well in the car. Bijou is calm and affectionate.

Pink was born in Dec. 2009. She is a Chihuahua/Daschund cross with markings like Bleu Cheese only in tan and brown coloration. She also grey/ blue in her left eye. Pink is affectionate and likes to take naps on your lap or chest if you are sitting in a chair or on the couch watching TV. She can be very shy when first meeting new people, but becomes curious enough to explore the new humans in just a few minutes. Pink will sleep next to you at night, and usually is upside down with her little belly in the air. Pink is playful with other dogs her size, and loves to run and chase her brothers VonnBerger, and  Bleu
Cheese. We are hoping to find an exceptional home for this sweet little girl. Preferably one that has another dog to play with since she will be leaving her brothers and mother behind. Pink is spayed, fully vaccinated, and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $250.00.

Ernie walks on leash and is getting better with more practice. He seems fine with cats, and would probably be fine with kids too.

Finn is a high energy boy. He is good with other dogs, walks pretty well on leash, and is very crate trained. Finn would do best in a home that will walk him on leash for at least 35-45 minutes everyday. He is an affectionate boy who is learning basic obedience commands.

Kiwi is 1-2 yr old. and about 50lbs. She is a medium energy dog. Kiwi is crate trained, and playful with other dogs, although she can be pushy with some. We don't know yet how she is with kids, or cats. Kiwi walks on leash, and is getting better with practice.

Kota is a 4 yr old Harlequinn Great Dane. He is about 150 lbs, and pretty easy going. He had shown some dominance toward some of the male foster dogs when he first arrived. Since he has been neutered, he is getting along with everyone. Mostly he likes sleeping during the day on his giant dog pillow. This breed typically has lower exercise needs.
Generally they look forward to a good 45 minute walk and then they are done for the day. Kota was born deaf, and even though the breeder his mother came from advised he be put to death (defective in their mind), his owner opted against killing him. The only thing we have found that is a different in dealing with a deaf dog is getting their attention. Once you do, they are very happy to come to you when you wave them in. Kota is no different. Kota will alert you when he needs to go outside to relieve himself. He spends a good part of his day trying to follow his human around. Eventually though, he returns to his pillow for a nap. Kota walks well on leash, and we are teaching him hand signals for sit, down, stay. See a video of Kota on YouTube  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RmuzEbyX68

Merlin is very good on leash, housetrained, crate trained, good with other dogs, super affectionate, and loves spending the day hunting lizards in the yard. He is will chase cats, so would probably do best in a home without them. Merlin came from a home with kids although we don't know how young they were. Merlin comes well when called, and knows the commands "sit" and "down". He is about 50 lbs and medium energy.

Peter Pan is about 8 yrs old and 50lbs. He is a medium energy dog. Peter Pan is housetrained, crate trained, walks on leash and LOVES to go for a ride in the car. He gets along with other dogs and is pretty good with cats too. Peter Pan is deaf, and so  would probably do well in a home with another dog to alert him when being called. Penelope is about 1 yr old, 45lbs, and a medium-high energy dog. She is crate trained, walks on leash, is very playful with the other foster dogs,  and is also quite affectionate. Rosie is a 1-2 yr old, 50lbs, wrinkle-faced compact dog. Rosie is crate trained, and very playful with other dogs. He is a big boy at about 100 lbs. Sampson is not good with cats as he will chase them. Sampson needs to be in a home with good pack leadership, and consistant rules. He is a big dog, and like ALL dogs needs clear rules to be well behaved.

Scout is a 4 yr old medium sized, medium energy boy. He is good on leash and makes an excellent running partner. Scout nows the command "sit" and we are working on teaching him "down" and "stay". Scout is well behaved in the house, and housetrained. He is also crate trained. Scout is good with other dogs, both big and small. He is curious about cats, but will smell them and then leave them alone. Scout will do best in a home where he will continue to get good daily exercise. Up to 2 miles a day will keep this handsome boy well behaved.

Sonja is aprox 4 yrs old. She came to us from a high kill pound. Sonja's previous owner had left a harness on her for so long, never removing it or loosening it, until it rubbed areas of her fur completely off. Her coat has improved, and filled in, although it will continue to improve with time. We think Sonja is a Queensland mix. She is crate trained, and getting better at walking on leash. In that she is a cattle dog, she can be a little pushy with other dogs, but she is very friendly and affectionate to people. This good girl now deserves a great forever home.
