Newbury Park Pet Supply owner Josh Pasewaldt was sickened by the fact that the Kern County Animal Shelter in Bakersfield,CA kills 28,000 animals every year. 28,000 each year! So he decided to do something to save lives. Instead of selling puppies and kittens for profit, like all the other petstores do, several times a week Josh drives to Kern County Animal Shelter and pays $60 to adopt each spayed/neutered dog and $40 to adopt each spayed/neutered cat. He loads his vehicle with as many animals as he can and then drives back to Newbury Park Pet Supply with them. Josh then encourages his community to adopt a puppy for the $60 adoption fee or kitten for the $40 adoption fee. Read more about the adoptions by clicking here.
The local community has rallied around Josh's good work and adopted over 800 dogs, and nearly 300 cats from him to date. They also support his pet supply store by buying the things they need for their new adopted pet. Collars, leashes, food bowls, food, etc. What a brilliant idea! Too bad all the petstores don't care about animals as much this young man does. Wouldn't the world be a different place if other pet supply stores made the same effort to save animals instead of just profit off of them.
